Cumberland/North Yarmouth Community Recreation

Encaustic Painting Class for AdultsWould you like to try something new and different? Something both creative and fun? Encaustic painting is just that! Encaustic paint is composed of beeswax, damar resin and pigments that are applied to a surface while melted. It is a beautiful and unique medium to work with. Along with providing you with a basic knowledge of the encaustic medium, this class will introduce you to several techniques including embedding found objects and photos, making impressions, incising, masking, combining mediums and image transfer. This class is appropriate for artists of all levels and experience. Students who have taken this class previously or who have experience with encaustic painting are welcome. This is a studio class- Rick can work with students at different levels of ability and experience.

Rick Receives Good Idea Grant!

“The Good Idea Grant program fosters the growth of Maine’s artists by supporting the creation of new work or professional development. Any "good idea" that furthers an individual artist's creative growth is eligible for the grant.”

Rick used the grant money to hire a helicopter to fly him over the islands off the coast of Belfast Maine. From above, Rick was able to see and experience the beauty and uniqueness of the coast and coastal islands firsthand. Rick believes his experience of leaning out of a helicopter door and personally viewing the Maine Coast will have a profound impact on his work.
